Long Beach rain advisory cautions against entering water at beaches, bays

Long Beach Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis on Sunday, Jan. 24 issued a rain advisory for recreational beaches and bays in the city, following the rain experienced in the last 24 hours.

Recreational swimming areas should be avoided for three days following the end of a rainstorm, she said. After any significant rainfall, unhealthy conditions may result from increased runoff from storm drain outlets and rivers, which eventually lead to the city’s beaches.

The advisory will likely be extended as the rain continues throughout the week. According to weather.com, there will be no rain throughout Monday but there will be strong winds at 32mph during the day which will decrease to 26mph at night and continue to lower as the week continues.
